Web Browser are constantly updating their settings and features. These instructions will be updated as needed.

Choosing a Browser

Firefox is the recommended web browser for George Fox systems such as FoxTALE.  You can download a free copy of Mozilla Firefox at http://firefox.com/.  George Fox computers will usually have Firefox installed.

Keep it Up to Date

If you already have Firefox installed, make sure you have the latest version.  The FoxTALE website may not perform properly on an older version of Firefox or another browser.

Please note that Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome or other browsers may have issues working in FoxTALE. You should be familiar with how to clear the cache:

Configuring your Browser

For optimal FoxTALE performance, you will need to configure pop-up blockers and cache in your browser.

Pop-Up Blockers  

Check that your computer is not blocking pop-up windows from the FoxTALE site. Depending on which browser you are using, you can add http://foxtale.georgefox.edu to your trusted sites.

Firefox Instructions for PC

  1. Select Firefox > Options and click on Privacy and Security on left.

  2. Scroll down to the Permissions section. If Block pop-up windows is checked, then click the Exceptions button to the right of Block pop-up windows.  For the address of the web site, type http://foxtale.georgefox.edu or *.georgefox.edu for all George Fox sites, and click Allow.

  3. Click Save Changes.    

Firefox Instructions for Mac

  1. Select Firefox > Preferences, and click on Privacy and Security - Permissions section.

  2. If Block pop-up windows is checked, then click the Exceptions button to the right of Block pop-up windows.  For the address of the web site, type http://foxtale.georgefox.edu or *.georgefox.edu for all George Fox sites, and click Allow.

  3. Click “Save Changes” to close the Allowed Sites window, and click the  X in the tab display at the top to close the Preferences/Content window.

Google Chrome Instructions for Mac or PC

  1. Select the Settings icon in the upper right  and choose settings from the menu
  2. Scroll to bottom and Click on Show Advanced Settings 
  3. Scroll down page and under Privacy and Security click on Content Settings
  4. from that window scroll down until you see Pop-up Settings
  5. If the box is checked Do not allow, then click on Manage Exceptions to add http://foxtale.georgefox.edu or *.georgefox.edu for all George Fox sites.

Cache (or Temporary Internet Files) Settings  

Set your browser to refresh pages more frequently.  Systems will more easily show the newest versions of web pages.

Firefox Instructions for PC

  1. Select Firefox > Options, and click the Privacy and Security link.
  2. In the Cached Web Content section, tick the box for Override automatic cache management.  Enter the number 2 for Limit cache to 2 MB of space.
  3. Preferences opens in a new tab on your browser.  Click the X on the tab to close preferences.

  1. Select Firefox > Preferences, and click the Privacy and Security link.

Google Chrome for Mac or Windows

Google Chrome does not have a setting where the cache size can be adjusted or set.

Enable Javascript

Both FoxTALE (Moodle) and Peoplesoft require Javascript to be enabled in your web browser.  By default, Firefox enables the use of JavaScript and requires no additional installation, but if you are not sure, please contact the IT Service Desk for technical assistance.

Enable Browser Download Window

In Options (PC) or Preferences (Mac) select the General link.  Scroll down to the Files and Applications section. We recommend that you check the button, Always ask me where to save files.

On FoxTALE course home page, when you click on a link for a file, a browser window will pop up  that will enable you to save the file to your computer or open the file with a program you designate:
